Be still and listen, you may be surprised in what you hear

I only took two images I can even share, neither that spectacular and both with my iphone.  As I sit and wait for my youngest to get out of school. I may crack open a book (more rare) I mostly just scroll pictures on IG.  That’s the real honest truth.  I’m a photo junkie and I need to get my inspiration, my fix of goodness from around the world.  I can be having the crappiest day, filled with cramps and lady issues and be the crankiest person on the planet and then I see my “friend” who lives in Dublin and is in the hospital because her bloods too low and she has a fever and she is undergoing chemo.   And already I have seen other friends even closer that have had that same battle and then I see someone post a little heart and dedicate it to that friend who lives in Dublin and is battling cancer and is having a crappy day in the hospital.  I decide, why not?  Why not send this stranger friend some love from way over here, as I sit waiting to pick up my youngest girl.  I bet Vanessa just longs to pick up her boys from school today, but she is too busy battling with cancer and she has to depend on her husband and family to join in and help a mother out.  Then it gets placed right back into proper perspective.

WELL WISH

I have also been paying attention from afar as a young couple sleep day and night at the children’s hospital while their little boy also battles cancer and their lives are turned upside down, yet in all of that they still have such joy, they instead find it as an opportunity to share God’s great gift.  It’s amazing to me what people can teach me.  They have no idea.  Sometimes we don’t realize people are paying attention or even watching the things we do, the things we can do to make a difference.  It’s important to share even when we don’t think anyone is listening, even more important to “do” it matters.

Have you ever got a little thought, or tug at your heart.  Like a little voice telling you, you ought to do this or that?  Easy to ignore and much harder to act upon.  I call that the Holy Spirit while others may call it intuition or the universe speaking to them.  Whatever it may be…I have always found that when I actually act upon it, the most unexpected results may occur and blessing begin to happen.

Super mom or super tired?

journey

I’m a mom.  I think it’s the biggest most important job I have.  I love my motorcycle man because he helps to remind me of really important things.  You see last night as he cut the raw chicken into strips for fajitas, I chopped the onions and peppers.  I mentioned to him that I skipped tanning.  That sounds strange I’m sure tanning, the red haired freckled Pippi Longstocking look alike tans??  Let me just explain a little about the tanning.  My tanning salon has something called red light treatment; it helps people with a number of conditions, eczema being one of them. So I try my darndest to fit in a session every single day if possible.  It’s not as easy as it sounds.

So he asks me “why?”  (me) “well my sister she left her ipad here and so I had to come straight home and make sure the house was unlocked so she could get in, then while I was here I decided to do the dishes, and clear off the table, and strip our sheets, water the garden and did a quick blog entry.  Before I knew it, it was time to get Dylan  (Let me tell you. I can get stuff done FAST when I put my mind to it, I think it’s a MOM SUPER POWER)  So…then I picked up Dylan, then I picked up Abbie, then I went to the grocery store to get the stuff for our fajita’s and when I got back, I vacuumed and I snuck in an episode of Mad Men and then…well before I knew it, it was time to make dinner……so I didn’t tan today.”   Rich replies, “The tanning place is right next to Fresh and Easy, why didn’t you just take Abbie and go while you were there in the same parking lot?”  (me) “well Abbie hates sitting in the waiting room waiting for me, so I didn’t want to torture her again”  He so quickly could tell me what was going on here.  “You put your sister and your daughter’s needs before your own, like you always do.  Everyone else is always so much more important than you.  It wouldn’t have killed Abbie to sit there for 20 minutes; you could have just opened the slider for your sister and been back on your way.”  He makes it all so black and white and it all makes such perfect sense when he explains it.  I really took a pause for a moment.  This goes hand in hand with the class I’m taking.  I’m (learning) how to change this about me.  It’s not easy, it feels so natural to me to put everyone’s needs in front of my own, isn’t that what we are supposed to do?  This is not easy, this is really hard but I have to change my way of thinking. I’m not aiming to become a SELFISH crazy woman but you know….balance.

super mom

This year my word was LOVE.  It’s a powerful packed word that can change the world.  The biggest, strongest word I know but next year I think my word should be CHANGE.  It will take action and courage but that’s what we are here for….. growth.  If we don’t change how can we grow? Reminds me of a really great song by JJ Heller.  And strangest thing….change is our word this week in Now You Workshop.

How many of you have been in this similar dilemma? oh and remember to vote.  I’m keeping voting open for one week.  Just look for the post that is titled VOTE!

an every day sort of day already lived and behind me

What did you do yesterday?  One may think my day was pretty average, like a typical working mom kind of day.  I got up to take the soccer player to zero period then back again to take my “not so morning girl”  to school and then got myself to work.  I did a little accounting and while I was at work I got an email.  I WON!  I won something.  Last week I left a comment on a really great blog, my new friend Michelle’s blog http://michellegd.com/author/michellegyauchdzema/ she featured an interview with Tara Leaver and Tara has written a book called “creative spark” on this particular day if we left a comment it entered one into a drawing to possibly win this book. Long story short, I WON!  I was so excited to have won this book.  I think the timing is perfect, just perfect. It’s one of those trippy things because Tara’s book is almost exactly like the post I had written recently after I stumbled on a t.v. program in the middle of the night.  It all went together perfectly.  Just one of those things you know.  Something that could easily be missed if one wasn’t paying super close attention to detail and how things intertwine together.  How could a person I just happen to meet in the treehouse (a little IG group with daily prompts) then “stumble” upon one named Michelle, who happened to interview another gal from across the pond Tara who just happened to write a book about the exact things/feelings I have been experiencing at this exact moment in my life?  HUM?  What do you think? Coincidence?  I think not!

Aside from the excitement of actually winning something amazing, I managed to pick my kids up from school, stop by the post office to mail a post card, have the most rich and delicious chocolate cupcake ever with my one and only daughter.

cupcakesThen text back and forth with another friend Miss Audrey http://todayjustbe.wordpress.com/ from across the US about Mad Men and how awesome this show is and how we happen to both equally admire and inspire one another while doing the dishes, tidying up and fitting in two episodes in of Mad Men.

mad menGoing for a walk with my girl and my guy and our dog around the school across the street from our house, four times around equals two miles, while also picking up neighborhood trash around this school across the street from my house, an entire shopping bag full of trash btw.

trashThen baking our “famous make in your sleep banana bread” with all the old brown frozen banana’s in our freezer then greeting my sister who came to spend the night, bringing with her four c.d.’s for me to transfer into my library, feeding the animals, taking a shower and getting off to bed to “cuddle” with my guy, while comforting the one and only daughter who couldn’t sleep and had a tummy ache here or there, letting the little scraggly Pablo dog out to pee at 2:00 am and running into my sister in our hall who didn’t even see me because she was so intrigued with whatever was on her ipad (my guess…Mad Men) as she walked out of our bathroom also at 2:00 a.m.  All in a day’s work right?  I’m most positive it’s not much different from many of your days. Dinner?  Oh yeah that was left over chili so that was easy. In fact, willing to bet some of you were actually far more busy than I.

Today I began my day with listing to music while waking up my sister and having coffee with her among other things you know.

Just yesterday I had 75 followers (that sounds so weird to me….followers) and now this morning I have 80! What should I do when I reach 100 readers?  I have to do something really amazing right?  My only goals was to reach 100 subscribers well honestly first it was just to see if I could convince at least 10 people to be interested.  Anything is possible and I remind myself, out loud even sometimes to never, ever give up.  Persistence pays off no matter what your goals may be, if you’re consistent and persistent, you will get where you want to be.

I’m going to figure out how to make a poll, I’m not sure where it will show up on my page but the poll will be interactive.  There will be an opportunity for my readers to vote on what I should do for my 100th subscriber.  Be on the look out for that poll. I need your input.

Mad Men

madmen_standard

My mom and sister are completely into Mad Men and they were talking about it the other night at dinner and got me all interested.  This weekend I had a chance to watch one episode from the first season and I was tripping out!! So much smoking and drinking and sleeping around in 1960’s!  Of course how would I know this being born in 1970 myself.   I think I’m slightly intrigued.  I think I may watch some more and see what this show is all about.  Have any of you out there watched this show?  I feel a slight bit sheltered.  I made a little mad men girl character of myself, slightly curvy of course!!  I’m still wondering if this show is a true reflection to that time period at least in the executive ad agency city sort of way?

Hope you all are having a great week.  Tomorrow is mid week.  I actually went to bed at 9:00 p.m. last night and slept through the night minus the 1:30 a.m. tap to our bedroom window because first-born forgot his house key.  But then I was able to fall back to sleep without a hitch.  Woke up rested however the morning I can’t say went smooth.  Abbie is not a morning person, need I say more.
